Janette Oke is a pioneer of inspirational fiction novels. She is the best-selling author of over 75 books, most of which are romance novels set in pioneer times. She is best known for her Loves Comes Softly series, which has been recently made into films. Love Comes Softly, her first book, became extremely popular and was followed by seven other books, completing a series of eight books.

Janette Oke was born Janette Steeves on February 18, 1935, to a prairie farmer and his wife. Even though she was born during the Depression years, she remembers her childhood being full of laughter and love. She met Edward Oke at Mountain View Bible College in Canada, where she graduated, and they were married in May of 1957. The Okes pastored several churches in Canada and the Sates, until he became president of Mountain View Bible College. They have four children, three sons and one daughter, and now many grandchildren. Janette Oke felt the urge to write since she was young, but being a mother and housewife was her first priority. It wasn’t until all her children where in their teens did she begin to write.

The Okes now make their home near Alberta, Canada, where she also writes her books, producing her first draft in one week. Janette Oak has received numerous awards for her works including
the President's Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association in 1992, The Gold Medallion Award, and the Christy Award of Excellence. Her books are loved by many around the world and have been translated into fourteen different languages.
